Petition to the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage

Establish a Permanent National Museum and Memorial for Victims of the Air India Bombing and Terrorism in Canada

We, the undersigned, respectfully urge the Government of Canada to create a permanent national memorial to honour victims of the Air India Flight 182 bombing, the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history.

On June 23, 1985, a bomb destroyed Air India Flight 182 off the coast of Ireland, killing all 329 people on board, including 268 Canadians. Despite the magnitude of human life lost, this event has never received the national recognition it warrants. Local memorials exist, but no central institution commemorates the victims or educates Canadians about this, the worst act of terrorism on our sovereign land on record, and its ongoing impact.

We call on the Minister to:

  • Establish a national memorial to honour victims of the Air India bombing
  • Locate and fund the institution appropriately, with meaningful input from survivors, families, and historians.
  • Ensure it serves as a space for remembrance, education, and unity—appropriately commemorating the victims of this dark moment in Canadian history.

Support a national memorial.
